rakijada pranjani

If you like brandy, good food and fun, then Rakijada in Pranjani is the right place for you. This manifestation is held every year in the village of Pranjani, on the border of the municipalities of Čačak, Požega and Gornji Milanovac. And this year, in 2023, it will be held on September 30.

The goal of the event is to promote brandy as a traditional Serbian drink and to gather brandy lovers from different countries. In this blog post, we will introduce you to everything you need to know about the Rakijada in Pranjani: how it was created, how it takes place and what you can expect if you visit it.

Rakijada Pranjani and its interesting history

And it all started, we can say "as a joke".

Rakijada in Pranjani started in 2002 as a local manifestation, which was founded by the villagers who competed to see who could drink more at the local level. Later, Rakijada became known throughout Serbia and beyond. Years ago, in addition to competitors from Serbia, there were guests and competitors from Poland, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia and other countries. Rakijada Pranjani today is a manifestation of a fun and competitive character, which attracts a large number of visitors and media, and is far from a joke, although there are indeed many of them.

Program and events at Rakijada

Rakijada in Pranjani has two main events: judging the best fruit brandies and a team competition in drinking brandy. Brandy is evaluated by an expert committee, which evaluates the quality, smell, taste and color of brandy. The brandy drinking competition includes three disciplines: recognizing the type and strength of the brandy, crossing the beam and pulling the brandy out with a strainer. The winners receive trophies, diplomas and prizes.

In addition, other competitions are organized at Rakijada, such as:

  • Competition for the best pie gibanica
  • Competition for the best goulash
  • The competition for the most beautiful girl
  • Competition for the best brass band

Rakijada also hosts a rich cultural, artistic and musical program, as well as a brandy exhibition. At the exhibition, you can see and taste various types of brandy, such as plum brandy, quince brandy, apricot brandy, William brandy, honey brandy and others.
